Piano Lessons for Children and Adults
Piano Lessons are offered for adults and children at Intermezzo through the Cody Gallaway Studios of Piano and Voice in Boerne, TX. Kathy Cody Gallaway graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy and has greatly loved teaching piano lessons to adults and children for over 25 years.
She studied piano with Lita Guerra, Karl Leifheit, Jane Abbot-Kirk and Michael Ard and from them gained many approaches to performance, study, and practice methods. Having studied Piano Pedagogy (methods & theories of teaching piano) with Verna Harder and Amanda Vick-Lethco as a Piano Pedagogy student at the University of Texas at both undergrad and graduate levels, she gained exposure to numerous teaching methods and styles of instruction.
Having personally focused on various theories of learning and brain research, she holds much information as to the development of the brain through artistic instruction as well as the various styles of learning within each person through visual, auditory and/or kinesthetic paths. As a result, her styles of teaching will vary with each student's needs as well as personality types and learning paths.
She works to design a creative and thorough study of piano for each student which includes music theory, music history, various repertoire representing all styles of music, the development of sight reading skills, composition, performance, and other primary basic fields of instruction while building a program fit to the student's personal interests in music.
Voice Lessons for Children and Adults
Voice Lessons are offered to children and adults through Intermezzo at Cody Gallaway Studios of Piano and Voice in Boerne, TX. Kathy Cody Gallaway offers voice lessons which are thoughtfully catered to each student's needs and objectives for either a long term (academic year) or a short term (perhaps driven by the need for preparation for a vocal audition or coaching prior to performance). As a child, she grew up enjoying singing in church choirs directed by very fine choral directors. Her formal vocal training and performance began as a teenager in choral and solo settings. She studied voice as a music major at Baylor University and sang in the Baylor University Chorus. As a young adult, she greatly enjoyed the privilege and the demands required to sing in The Texas Bach Choir and a Renaissance Octet. She began performing solos at age 13 and has provided solos for many settings such as weddings, funerals, music theater and private parties. Singing music from the heart is simply one of her favorite ways to spend time and offer a gift to others. Her many positive experiences in so many settings guide her teaching for performance preparation.
She received ten years of formal voice training with Dr. Norman Gulbrandsen at Northwestern University and DePaul University in Chicago. As a result of her lifetime of vocal and choral performances and training, she is prepared to provide instruction in voice which is based upon traditional classical methods of instruction and performance. She has been personally responsible for various musical and performance needs which have included compostion and arrangement in such settings as church music, performance at art gallery openings, musical theater as well as programs for children. She will provide for each student a program designed and developed for their muscial, vocal and performance interests and needs.
