Photography by
Tom Gallaway

Photography had held Tom's interest for a number of years, but he became much more involved in 2000 with his first acquisition of a professional grade 35mm film camera.  He was initially convinced that the digital camera movement would not be able to compete with the quality of film.  But, after purchasing his first high-end digital camera in 2005, he realized the value of digital photography and all of his images since then have been taken with 35mm SLR digital cameras.

Tom Gallaway's photography is presented in the gallery printed on archival paper with archival printing, some of which are framed, others are matted and ready to be framed as you choose.  We also hold his photography printed on canvas, acrylic block, aluminum, and  gator board.  In addition, we have artfully designed and printed note cards and post cards of many of his photographs of  nature and international travel interests.

Tina Karagulian has been creating art since her childhood, sitting quietly and soaking in the beauty of the natural world around her, transferring what she sees with her eyes and feels with her hands to paper or canvas.  For Tina, art is a contemplative practice.  Each piece conveys color, layer and movement, enlivening each painting as it interacts with the viewer.  Each multidimensional painting is lovingly created for the future owner as it is being crafted, with the intention to awaken joy, peace, healing and inspiration.  Her colors hold much meaning.  Some of her paintings include elements of layering and collage.  Others create a flow of color and light.

Tina Karagulian's work is presented at Intermezzo in several media:  oil, acrylic, pastel, mixed media and matted or framed prints.  There is creative variety and deeply held meaning in each of her works. We also carry her books of writing and poetry.

"My work is always an exploration of the interconnectedness of all things" states D. Ellis Phelps when asked about her roles as author, poet, novelist, painter and educator.  Since 1991, she has created fine art and facilitated and coordinated the experience of the creative process through the fine arts for adults and children in museums, galleries, libraries, schools and in conference settings.  Her art combines the work of her heart and mind, the poetry that she writes and the many efforts toward healing that she contributes through other disciplines.

Intermezzo holds several Acrylic Paintings by D. Ellis Phelps.  Each painting carries with it a purposefully spiritual and intuitive statement of meaning for the audience to ponder and personalize.

Nan Henke is a Texas Hill Country artist.  "Stop the Truck" are the three words she often says while driving on the family ranch with her father-in-law.  She takes photos from every imaginable angle that might be useful in a future painting of wildlowers, animals and hill country scences and they resume their ranching tasks at hand.  While she paints from photographs, she is not aiming for photorealism.  After studying the photo she chooses the key elements she wants to play up in her painting and goes to work recreating the beauty.

Nan Henke works in watercolor and acrylics becuase she loves the choice that water media gives: colors that are either hard edged or flowing together.  Her work is presented at Intermezzo in various forms: watercolor and acrylic paintings, ACEO's and note cards of her watercolors.  Some are presented in frames, some are painted on mirrors and others are prepared in creative styles for desktop use.

Deb Mason

Deb Mason is a wife, mother of five adult children, grandmother of six, occupational therapist and artist, serious in her studies of the Tonalist aesthetic.  Her first oil painting experience was with Impressionist painter Ann Templeton, who exposed her to transparent painting techniques.  This led to her passion for the tonal painting style of the 19th & 20th century painters.  She has studied Tonalism with Deborah Paris, Judy Fuller and Nancy Bush.  It is her intent that each painting conveys a mystery, a feeling or a mood unique to the viewer.
